One of the most popular segments on Lunch With Casey was Gumby, the animated clay series created by Art Clokey.   Starting in 1966, Gumby was syndicated to local stations around the country, including WTCN-11.

Art Clokey created his first animated short, “Gumbasia” using clay figures in 1953.   This caught the attention of NBC, leading to the a pilot for a Gumby series.   The programs were added to the popular Howdy Doody show in 1956.  The original series continued production up to 1968.

Gumby saw a revival of sorts in the 1980’s as Eddie Murphy parodied the character on Saturday Night Live.    A new series of shorts was produced in the mid-eighties, followed by Gumby – The Movie in 1995.

Here are a couple of Gumby episodes from YouTube.
